Volac launches on-line interactive Fat Calculator

Dairy farmers and their advisors will be able to consider more carefully the optimum feeding rate and type of fat to feed to reach herd performance targets this winter by logging on to Volac’s new on-line interactive Fat Calculator.

The tool explains why fat should be fed, calculates how much is needed in the ration and clarifies the differences between the various types of fat on the market. It offers farmers practical advice on how best to measure a cow’s energy requirements and, features a body condition scoring video to illustrate any fine tuning her diet may require.

“Exploiting yield potential may once again feature among dairy farmers’ goals this winter, but how many actually try to obtain higher yields is another matter,” says Volac’s Jeannie Everington. “Extra energy produces more milk which lowers the production cost per litre, as variable and fixed costs can be spread.  The key driver to producing the extra cost-effective litre is energy. The Fat Calculator will help farmers to achieve their goals and advise on the various sources of energy available which the cow can use effectively and safely.”
