Volac launches on-line Wrap Calculator

Volac has launched www.volac.com/topwrap-2000  a new on-line Wrap Calculator which is designed to help all farmers and contractors to determine at a glance, the cost, time efficiency and eco-friendliness of their bale wrapping operations this season.

The model requires farmers and contractors to input predicted number of bales to be wrapped, yield of bales per roll and current price per roll in order to determine their wrap’s efficiency in the field, together with its environmental impact, compared to a new Pretech film.

“The calculator will, for example, be able to demonstrate that savings of 10% per bale can be made by using Topwrap 2000 over standard wrap,” says Volac’s Jeannie Everington. “That’s because the 2,000m roll of film is longer and lighter so approximately 24% less wrap per bale than conventional film, a figure that would amount to a massive saving of 7,000 tonnes of film, if conventional was swapped for the new product in all UK baling operations.”

“Translated to the field, if wrapping 1,000 bales requires 34 rolls of standard film, only 26 rolls of Topwrap 2000 would be needed to do the same job. That’s eight rolls less to buy, to transport, to change and to dispose of which has significant advantages in terms of saving time and money.”

She adds: “Introducing sustainable measures on farm frequently demands high capital costs accompanied by long term payback. However in this particular instance, the new Wrap Calculator has determined that it is possible to reduce wrap used and subsequent waste, with lower cost to baling operations.”
