Our global ventures

DOC-Volac Nutrition V.O.F. (DVN)

Volac formed an innovative joint venture company with the Dutch dairy cooperative DOC Kaas under the name DV Nutrition (DVN). Since 2004, DVN has been processing liquid whey to produce high-quality whey proteins and lactose-based ingredients. Both DOC (which has been taken over by the German dairy cooperative DMK Deutsches Milchkontor GmbH) and DVN are situated in the Agribusiness area, or ‘Dairy Park’ in Hoogeveen, The Netherlands.

DOC and Volac are both committed to operational sustainability. DVN uses the Dairy Park’s self-sufficient power supply, as well as recycling condensate created during manufacturing for other processes. Excess heat is also repurposed for use in office spaces. The whey processing itself is linked to cheese production in the adjacent DOC factory and this alleviates the necessity for transport.

The facility possesses Lloyds FSCC22000 and GMP+ certifications and is approved to the Dutch COKZ standard.

First Milk Limited

Volac works in partnership with ‘First Milk’ — Britain’s only major dairy cooperative wholly-owned by dairy farmers — and we source whey from their Haverfordwest creamery in south-west Wales.

First Milk manufactures cheese and produces bulk butter, cream and whey proteins. Supplying traceable fresh milk to a range of dairy manufacturers and processors across the UK, is also a large part of their business, supported by responsible sourcing and a commitment to sustainable supply chains.

As a business with a passion for innovation and sustainability, Volac constantly seeks fresh ways of working with partners across the supply chain to meet industry challenges and our commitment to these goals is reflected in the partnership that we have built with First Milk.
